At first I was really excited by the iPhone but after looking at all the specs I’m having the same reaction. 3G is the big one, but at the end of the day what I really want is a true widescreen video iPod with a hard drive (80 or 100 GB). I already have a smart phone but the current video iPod’s screen is lacking at best for video.
And AppleTV is looking like a bust as well considering there are no PVR capabilities. What the hell is going on over there?

For me the biggest issue is a hardware issue: keyboard. The Treo, which we all use, has a crappy keyboard. Not sure the iPhone will solve that. Maybe a slide out keyboard like the Cingular 8525 is the solution. In fact I may buy an 8525: big camera, 3G compatible, wifi, etc. Having started with a Newton, I’m no big fan of Palm software. Not nearly sophisticated enough.

What you need is a tin can and a long piece of string. And for viewing, the wall of a cave, to cast shadows from the . . . . Campfire.
