The Save the Children organization is known for their fantastic international efforts to help children worldwide. What’s less well-known is the tremendous domestic work they do in the area of US disaster preparedness. Disasters impact children differently than adults and Save The Children has extensive programs to restore normalcy for kids through disaster preparation, response and recovery.
To help these efforts affect the startling lack of US state disaster preparedness, we developed Get Ready Get Safe, a web site and social content program designed to alert parents, caregivers and teachers to the steps they can take to make their homes, schools and states ready in case of emergency. Through illustrated Disaster Preparation Checklists, interactive State Preparedness Reports and a hard-hitting Hurricane Sandy “One Year Anniversary” campaign, we drive awareness of this important issue and direct people to take action by writing legislators and sharing crucial materials.
